5. A pre-booked transfer
If you want to choose your own quintas, book a private car to take you there and back. It costs less than a full day and you set the plan. See our Douro transfers: enter where you are and where you want to go, and the price appears straight away.
Which option suits you?
- One quinta, no rush: train to Pinhão and walk, or a tasting at Quinta da Foz Tua next to Tua station.
- Two or three quintas and lunch: a private day, so nobody has to drive.
- Your own list of quintas: a transfer there and back, booked ahead.

Is there Uber in the Douro?
Rarely. Uber and Bolt cars seldom come this far up the valley, so plan your rides ahead.
Can we walk between quintas from Pinhão?
Some quintas are close to the station, but the roads have no pavement and climb steeply. One walk is pleasant; two is hard work.
Do you pick up from Porto?
Not for the private days: from Porto the train is faster and more beautiful. We meet you at Tua station.
How to visit Douro wineries without a car
The Douro wasn’t made for people who don’t drive. The quintas are spread across the hillsides, the roads are narrow and winding, and taxis are few. And whoever drives doesn’t taste. These are the real options.
1. Train and walking
The Douro Line train stops in Régua, Pinhão and Tua. In Pinhão there are a few quintas a short walk from the station. Good for one visit; hard to do more.
2. Taxi
Possible, but there are few and you need to book them ahead, both ways. Between three quintas and lunch, the rides add up fast.
3. Group tours
There are plenty leaving from Porto. They’re cheaper, but spend much of the day on the road and share the tastings with other groups.
4. A private day with us
We pick you up at your accommodation (within 25 km of Pinhão and Alijó, Régua and Vila Real included) or at Tua station. During the day we take you to the quintas, to lunch and to a boat on the river. Nobody in your group has to choose between tasting and driving.
